$$$$$ educators recently by the apparent success of "synthetic $$$$$
$$$$$ phonics" in teaching people to read. There is little $$$$$
$$$$$ that is new in these methods; children were learning $$$$$
$$$$$ through phonetics in the UK in the 1950s. However the $$$$$
