WHAT IS IE-Remove?
==================
IE-Remove removes Internet Explorer from an existing full
installation of Windows98. Who said this was impossible?

This removal is achieved by replacing the Windows98 Explorer
shell (the graphical desktop interface) with the Windows95
Explorer shell.

If you want to know why you would do this, please visit
http://www.98lite.net but it is sufficient to say that for
many users, Windows98 without Internet Explorer is faster,
more stable, and takes up less space on the hard disk.
These "improvements" make 98lite (Windows98 without IE) a
desirable system for older computers, and for users who are
happy to trade some features to maximise speed and agility.

The replacement is not reversible, but there is no "magic"
here, so you can reinstall Windows98 over the top of your
customised 98lite setup to regain all the lost features,
including Internet Explorer. You can also install a
standalone version of just the Internet Explorer Browser.
You will keep the faster shell, but be able to use IE for
accessing the web. A similar result is achieved by using a
companion product "ShellSwap", available at
http://www.98lite.net.

INSTALLATION
============

Unzip the files contained in the distribution ZIP file to
any location on your hard disk that you like. I suggest the
desktop for ease of use.

With Windows loaded, RIGHT-CLICK on the IERemove.INF file
and select "Install" from the popup context menu.

You will be prompted for your Windows95 CDROM. You should
use the BROWSE button on the dialog box to locate the Win95
Directory on your CDROM that contains all the windows setup
(.CAB) files, or locate the directory on your hard disk that
contains the following Windows95 versions of these files.
                Explorer.exe
                Shell32.dll
                Comdlg32.dll
                Notepad.exe
                Wordpad.exe

Should you wish to extract the five windows95 files above
from the Windows95 CDROM and store them on your hard disk
for convenience, you can use the 95Extract.INF found on the
download page at http://www.98lite.net

You will be asked to REBOOT after the files are copied over.
Please reboot promptly, and to not move or delete the
IERemove.INF file until after you have rebooted.

The system will reboot with the windows95 shell, and the
remaining cleanup of files and registry keys will be done
before the desktop opens for your new 98lite experience.

NOTE:
=====
This removal is quite rigorous in that several ActiveX
controls are removed entirely from the disk and registry.
Any software requiring any of these ActiveX controls may not
work properly after running IE-Remove. Reinstalling these
applications should repair them, although the software
designers are unlikely to have designed the installation for
 such drastic conditions.

If you cannot get your application to work, I suggest you
visit http://www.98lite.net and see if there is a fix, post
a request for help on the Message Central notice board. If
you cannot resolve your situation you will just have to
reinstall the full windows98. You may be able to still use
the ShellSwap utility provided at http://www.98lite.net to
keep the faster Windows95 Shell, while keeping Internet
Explorer intact.

This file will clean out a bunch of registry information for
 98lite users also.

I hope you enjoy 98lite!

Shane
