KnowNow LiveServer
The KnowNow LiveServer event-management engine is the core of KnowNow 3
Enterprise Edition. LiveServer is a high-performance, HTTP-based server
that manages the flow of events to and from systems, applications and
people. It is specially designed to hold open and manage thousands of
simultaneous connections for instantaneous delivery of business-critical
data. With LiveServer, events are quickly and efficiently delivered
exactly where they need to be√ directly to an application, browser or
simultaneously to both. The intelligent routing system handles events
as they are in motion, including filtering, transformation and security.
KnowNow LiveServer provides a simple means of integrating any system or
business process together over the Internet. The use of native Internet
protocols enables it to send and receive data through firewalls and
connect endpoints that may not be under the users domain or control.
This makes KnowNow the ideal choice for integrating data or systems
from business-to-business or across the globe.
KnowNow LiveServer fits into your existing architecture just like a
standard HTTP Web server. Multiple LiveServers can be clustered for
failover and scalability. Topics are exposed as standard URLs, and the
LiveServer uses HTTP as its native communications protocol. Publishing
and subscribing are performed with HTTP POST and GET. This enables
applications with an HTTP interface to publish events to LiveServer
without modification. KnowNow events are payload agnostic, can be
flexibly typed and can contain XML, SOAP or other message formats.
External Modules allow for events to be transformed and processed in
motion.
Making Simple Integration Possible
Unlike traditional publish-subscribe middleware, KnowNow LiveServer
works in a loosely-coupled, decentralized manner allowing for greater
flexibility and stability. Pre-built schemas are not required. Built-
in filters and content-based routing allow for complex event processing.
Clustering of several LiveServers across a network allows KnowNow 3
Enterprise Edition to manage events on Internet-Scale so KnowNow can
handle the most demanding event processing requirements.
LiveServer routes events through LiveModules that can perform a variety
of functions including data transformation, content filtering,
authentication and authorization.. LiveServer includes modules to
perform XPATH and Regular-expression filtering, as well as an API to
allow for custom-built modules. External modules can be easily
integrated in a loosely-coupled manner to perform many functions
including on-the-fly transformations. This makes KnowNow 3 Enterprise
Edition a powerful and extensible platform for event-driven data
interchange and management among decentralized applications.
Definitions:
.Topics are the ⌠schema÷ of the event management engine. They represent
the location where an event can be published or subscribed. They are
analogous to directories. Topics are standard URLs.
.Events are analogous to files, they have a ⌠time of value÷ and can
carry any kind of payload including text, XML, SOAP, etc.
.A subscriber is a destination for the event. This could be a user or
another enterprise system or both.
.A publisher is the source of the event. Publishers do not need to know
about subscribers and subscribers can be added and removed without
the publisher needing to know. This is called being loosely-coupled.
