What I have always missed in traditional sequencers like Cubase, Tracktion,
Sonar and others is some kind of "Scratchpad/Inspiration" tool.
They all have wonderfull features, but none could really inspire me in times of
having a so called "Writers block".
Back in the old days, I used to turn on my Korg SQ10 sequencer and started
tweaking the knobs until some nice pattern was born.
So, if you're looking for a texture to build a composition on, a rythmic phrase
to get you back into the groove, or a melodical line that revives your
inspiration, SQ4 could be what you are looking for.
Nowadays the possibilities are much bigger having Midi and virtual instruments
with parameters the can be automated.
So I decided to develop a tool that has the looks of an analogue sequencer, but
with features far beyond traditional hardware sequencers.
The idea was to extract the main parts of music into 4 different entities. So I
came up with the following : TIME / PITCH / DYNAMICS / DURATION.
I was wondering how it would sound if one could control those 4 entities
independant from each other. And guess what? I think it sounds cool. But hey,
it's up to you to decide.
SQ4 comes in 2 flavours :
