This program converts video files among various formats. The possibilities
are nearly endless, with VCD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AVI, GIF, and even RM
support. Hero Video Convert also includes an integrated player, so you can
make sure you're converting the right file. The aesthetically pleasing and
simple interface has big, round buttons for each supported format that let
you get right to the business of converting. The program lets you choose
multiple files so you can batch convert. For each format, the program has
a set of options that let you resize the video and choose different audio
codecs, among other functions. The conversion function runs relatively
quickly and doesn't seem to overly strain system resources. Strangely,
the program doesn't install a shortcut in the Start menu, instead putting
an icon on the desktop. Also, by default, it installs its directory in the
top level of a hard drive rather than in the Program Files folder, like more
well-behaved Windows apps. Also, to find the help file, you have to dig through
its program folder, as help isn't accessible from the program interface.
Beyond these minor issues, Hero Video Convert easily handles a truly
impressive array of formats.
