The main purpose of Familia is to help you build a genealogical Web
site, with a title page, family tree, photo album and an index.
Familia has the following main functions:
Import of genealogical data from GEDCOM files
Photo album management program
Generation of Web pages
1) Import of Genealogical Data from GEDCOM Files GEDCOM
(GEnealogical Data COMmunications) is a standard file format for
exchanging information between genealogy programs. GEDCOM was developed
by the Family History Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Familia can read a GEDCOM file into its
Familia Family File, and then to use that data to generate an index and
family trees.
2) Photo Album Management Program You can enter a
picture file name, picture date, location, title and description. You
can fill a list of individuals present in the picture. If the person is
a family member, you can pick his/her name from the index. There is
also what we think is a nice feature: an arrow tool, which you can move
to show where a given individual is in the picture. The program
remembers the arrow coordinates for each individual, so that afterwards
when you select an individual in the list, the arrow jumps to that
person in the picture.
3) Generator of Web Pages Familia processes both your genealogical data
and the photo album and generates a whole family site, which contains a
descendant tree, picture pages, optional personal pages and an index.
You have a full control over which data items are displayed in each
individual s entry.
