Audio Compositor is:
- A MIDI-to-WAV file renderer suitable for professional
applications.
- A multitimbral realtime software wavetable synth.
- A sophisticated patch editor which understands SoundFonts, DLS
and Kurzweil files, and Audio Compositor's own powerful
instrument bank format.
- A file converter for all of the types listed (Kurzweil is
readonly).
- A librarian for your sample collection in .WAV format.
Audio Compositor is a MIDI file renderer and software wavetable
synthesizer, integrated with a rich graphical environment for editing
instrument samples and patches. Audio Compositor deals easily with
very dense scores and extraordinarily large sample collections,
enabling musicians to create, in software, digital recordings that
would otherwise require a very large investment in traditional
hardware samplers.
While many Audio Compositor users have created custom sample
libraries occupying hundreds or thousands of megabytes, Audio
Compositor also reads ready-made instrument banks in several popular
formats. Download your favorite General MIDI SoundFont from the
Internet, and Audio Compositor instantly becomes a simple
player/renderer for ordinary GM MIDI files. Instrument banks in
SoundFont, DLS, Kurzweil, and Audio Compositor's WAV-based format can
be combined and customized using a simple drag-and-drop interface,
then saved again in any of several formats.
Audio Compositor runs on Windows 95/98 and Windows NT.
The next update to Audio Compositor, version 4.0, is currently in
beta test. New features are listed here; for details please read the
release notes enclosed with the program:
- A revised instrument editor, with new windows that can be
switched on to take advantage of large displays, and multiple
selection for drag/drop and copy/paste operations.
- SoundBlaster emulation mode for improved balance between
instruments with SoundFont files.
- Chorus and reverb effects.
- Dozens of enhancements suggested by users.
- DLS level 2 compatability (first introduced in the 3.4 beta
test).
- Hooks for invoking an external wave editor (first introduced in
the 3.4 beta test).
This is beta software, so treat it accordingly! .ACP files written
by AC 4.0 cannot be read by earlier versions. Bug reports, as always,
are appreciated.
