1) Install Civilization : Call To Power 2 - Full install. Update it with ctp2patch1_11.EXE to version 1.1 . Run the game. Try creating a new game. A message pops up "Put your Call to Power CD 2 Cd in your CD-ROM drive". CTRL+D (enter Softice), bpx getdrivetypea (put breakpoint on getdrivetypea) and bpx getvolumeinformationa. F5 (exit Softice) and click RETRY. Softice breaks on getvolinfoa and you write down the address of the CALL - 40224e. Remove all breakpoints bc* and quit Softice (CTRL+D or F5). Create a copy of ctp2.exe and open it with W32Dasm. When the file is disassembled go to 40224e. You see a simple check routine. Search for Reference by a CALL above :

2) Lame way to remove the Cd Check is to go back at every address below, note the offsets and reverse the jumps.

Example : Go to 6b1229 and reverse (with the help of Hiew) JNE to JE or better make it JMP. Continue with the other addresses but note that where you have JE you must not make it JMP. Make it JNE or NOP it.

3) The above metod is good only if you have one or at most two CALLs at references bar. In our case it is better to rewrite the first line of the check with MOV EAX,1 and RET. This will bypass the entire check routine and return EAX = 1, which makes the program belive the cd is in. Note the offset of line 401f60 - 1f60.

Now open ctp2.exe with Hiew. F4 - decode, F5 - go to 1f60, F3 - edit, F2 - write in ASM, write MOV EAX,1 (press ENTER) RET (ENTER again), ESC (quit writing ASM), F9 - save your work, ESC - to exit. You've done it.
