The BitmapShrinker is mainly a tool for authors of web-pages and help-files. It can
shrink and enlarge graphics. The BitmapShrinker tries to choose the best fitting colors
for the pixels in the resulting graphic to avoid disturbing stair and block-effects.
The used method is often called anti-aliasing or bilinear interpolation. Optimized color
palettes can be created or the graphic can be mapped to widely used standard palettes.
This way it can be achieved an optimal result when the graphics are to be displayed in
web-pages or other documents on 256-color systems. The BitmapShrinker can generate
graphics, for example screen-shots of program-windows, with a special 6x6x6-palette.
Graphics with that palette will usually not be dithered by the Netscape Navigator and
the Microsoft Internet Explorer when displaying them on 256-color Windows systems. Thats
why the BitmapShrinker is very useful for software-authors, who want to include screen
shots of their application in web-pages or help-systems. Screen-shots can be loaded
directly from the windows clipboard into the BitmapShrinker.The resulting graphic can be
copied to the clipboard or saved to files. A lot of different file-formats, also the new
PNG-format, are supported.
