│ Welcome to ASSK!! This program is designed to get you into a machine that │
│ is running a password protected screensaver. The idea for this came from │
│ a similar program put out by some company, they wanted like $40 for it, so │
│ I figured I'd make a free one! │
│ │
│ Here are the BASIC instructions: BURN AUTORUN.INF, ASK.ICO, AND ASK.EXE │
│ ONTO THE ROOT DIRECTORY OF A CDR OR CDRW, for more info read on. │
│ │
│ Here's how it's supposed to work. You put CD in, ASSK runs even though │
│ screensaver is active because of autorun. ASSK gets encrypted password │
│ out of registry, decrypts it and copies it to the clipboard. You then │
│ move the mouse or hit a key on the keyboard so Windows prompts you for the │
│ password. Now you simply hit Ctrl+V and paste the password into the box, │
│ then you press Enter and you're in! │
│ │
│ In a perfect world: │
│ All you need to do is burn Autorun.inf, ask.ico, and ask.exe onto a CD and │
│ pop it into the target computer. Wait a few seconds till the CD spins │
│ down, press Ctrl+V, and hit enter! │
│ │
│ In the real world: │
│ Everything needs to be perfect for it to work. :( The target machine must │
│ be running Win95/98 (maybe it'll work on NT too, I don't know) and a │
│ password protected screensaver that uses Windows' password protection │
│ (there are a few screensavers out there that use their own protection │
│ scheme). If the screensaver password is synchronized with the login │
│ password, Windows may not save the password in the registry, so ASSK can't │
│ get to it. Autorun for data CD's must also be active (this is the default │
│ setting). │

│ The reason that there are so many limitations is that all functions must │
│ be automated. On most machines there should be no problems, I would guess │
│ that ASSK will work on 97% of all Win95/98 machines. So try it! │
│ │
│ ASSK can run in two different modes. The first is test, simply double- │
│ click ask.exe and it will run, there is a field that you can paste into, │
│ so that you can verify it works. The second is silent, run ASSK with the │
│ command line "ask /silent". It will not display itself in silent mode. │
│ This was done incase ASSK fails to get the password into the clipboard and │
│ you can't get into the machine, you won't have the ASSK window displayed │
│ on the target machine. In silent mode you leave no trace except what is │
│ in the clipboard. For those of you who care, you don't HAVE to use │
│ "/silent", ASSK only checks for the "/s". │
│ │
│ I've tested this and I believe it will properly decrypt all passwords that │
│ are 14 characters or less. Let me know how this works out for you. In │
│ test mode you can access an about menu has my contact info. Version 1.0 │

│ Slight bug fix...if not an alpha character, first and eleventh may have │
│ been decrypted incorrectly. Now fixed, thank you HH for pointing bug out. │

│ This new version is WAY better than v1.0. I've coded this one in Win32 │
│ Assembly, so the program is ALOT smaller and runs faster. The old version │
│ was 1.20MB, this version is only 44.2KB. The old version required 6 files │
│ and a floppy disk to simply get the password into the clipboard, this │
│ version only requires one *.exe to get the pass into the clipboard. The │
│ old version used someone else's decryptor, in this version I've coded my │
│ own. That's all the updates I belive...damn, if I make another version │
│ I'm going to have to write a history.txt. │
