  Have you ever burned a CD and wonder whether the data was copied
  correctly? CDR Checker performs a bytewise comparison between
  the contents of two directories. This utility is useful for
  verifying whether files were copied correctly to a CD, a hard
  drive, a Zip or Jaz disk, or to a tape drive. CDR Checker can be
  even be used to compare data files across Microsoft Network
  Neighborhood.
  The user can specify choose one of two types of verification
  schemes:
  (1) just check the file sizes on each disk, which is very fast,
      since only the FAT entry (or NTFS) is read, and
  (2) do a thorough check of the files by doing bitwise comparisons
      of each file, which is a slow operation (for example, a CDR
      with 249 MB takes 4 hours and 20 minutes to check).

  The verification rate for the thorough check is mostly a function

     even stronger. Things have been going great in the year 2000 for ORiON!
