Vienna, VA -- January 15, 1997) Signal Analytics is pleased to announce that its popular scientific
imaging processing software, IPLab(tm), is now available for the Windows(tm) Platform. In response to
the needs and requests of research scientists, Signal Analytics has produced IPLab for Windows which
runs on the Windows 95 (Available NOW) and Windows NT (Available 2Q 1997) operating systems
from Microsoft Corporation. IPLab for Windows will be offered alongside IPLab for Macintosh, which
has been available for the Macintosh(tm) platform since 1989.
IPLab is the software basis of a powerful scientific Image Processing Lab. IPLab for Windows is a tool
designed to let researchers who use Windows-based computers perform image acquisition, enhancement,
visualization, archiving, analysis, and laboratory automation. This flexibility gives users a great deal of
integrated power and convenience within a single application.
IPLab for Windows is not just a port of IPLab for Macintosh from the Macintosh to Windows. IPLab
for Windows was written from the ground up as a full 32-bit Windows application to take advantage of
the advanced speed and memory usage features of the Windows 95 platform. This was done in a way to
retain the features which have made IPLab for Macintosh such a popular image analysis package on the
Macintosh. Thus users who have both Macintoshes and PCs in their laboratories will feel comfortable
using IPLab on either platform.
Enhancement and analysis on almost any data set
IPLab for Windows can display, process, analyze, archive and output image data in seven different data
types: 8-bit, 16-bit signed and unsigned, 32-bit integer and floating point, and 24-bit and 48-bit color.
IPLab for Windows even supports 4 dimensional data (x-y-z-t) with each of these data types.
Enhancement features include contrast enhancement, pseudocoloring, 2 D filtering, background
subtraction, and multi-channel color overlays. IPLab for Windows users can calculate integrated
intensity, mean, min, and max values plus several morphometry properties, including area, perimeter and
roundness, on object regions within their images.
Image Acquisition
IPLab for Windows lets users acquire grayscale and color images from virtually any video camera plus a
variety of cooled CCD digital cameras. IPLab for Windows can capture 8-bit and 16-bit grayscale and
24-bit and 48-bit color. The image acquisition operation provides live display for focusing, automatic
exposure control, and multi-dimensional image capture. Users can capture and playback time lapse
movies and scan through 3D volumes created by optical sectioning. With the built-in support for 4
dimensional image data, IPLab for Windows users can even capture time series of 3D data.
Command Scripting
IPLab for Windows includes an integrated command sequence scripting mechanism. IPLab Scripts are
sets of IPLab commands which can be saved and re-used repeatedly. This feature makes it easy for
users to automate their own image acquisition and processing protocols.
With the features in IPLab for Windows users can address a variety of applications including low light
microscopy, fluorescence in situ hybridization, histology, medical imaging, astronomy, and remote
sensing.
IPLab for Windows version 1.0 is available at a special introductory price of $1,500 until June 1, 1997.
After June 1, the price will be $1,800. Current users of IPLab for Macintosh receive special pricing on
IPLab for Windows. IPLab for Macintosh and Power Macintosh is available now for $1,800. Signal
