Newspiper is a "news aggregator" program which shows and
speaks news from your favorite web sites (like cnn.com,
usatoday.com, etc.), RSS news feeds (Yahoo!, BBC, Google, etc.)
or blogs (ATOM format pages).
You can setup NewsPiper to retrieve news headlines (as well as
any other information) from any web page or RSS file and then it
will show downloaded information in the special News Bar -
always-on-top panel (like Taskbar) placed on the top of your
desktop.
For each shown headline you can open "full story" page in your
default web browser simply by clicking on the headline.
You can add new site for scanning (channel) just by indicating the
URL of RSS news feed or web page and the schedule for news
retrieving (how frequently NewsPiper will connect to the site to
download the latest news).
You can also setup NewsPiper to speak news from one or more
channels. To do that you need Microsoft Text-To-Speech engine
be installed on your computer. This engine comes with Windows
2000 or Windows XP operation systems or can be downloaded
separately from Microsoft site.
In addition NewsPiper can check your connection to some
Internet address (your can set your own one) by the schedule you
establish (one time per minute, 5 times per hour, etc.) and
changes the color of its icon in the system tray bar accordingly:
green - your are online, red - offline.
