What is Comic Collector?
Comic Collector is a program for making a database of your
comic book collection. Adding comics to the database is
quick and easy because of the "Add Multiple Comics"
feature, which lets you add entire series of comic books in
one single action.
The resulting list can be sorted, searched, grouped,
printed or exported to HTML or ASCII. Read on for more
details.
Adding comics to the database
The "Add Multiple Comics" feature is the quickest way to
add your entire collection of comic books to the list. Just
set the range of issues you want to add (e.g. issue 5 to
57) and fill in the field values that are the same for all
issues you are adding, e.g. Series, Genre, Format,
Publisher, etc.. (screen 1). Then click OK and Comic
Collector will generate comic items in your collection file
for all issue numbers you checked in the Issue List.
If you want, you can edit the created comic items later to
add issue-specific information, like Title, Nr of Pages,
Plot, etc... (screen 2) or the Edition you have. (screen
3).
Using the database
Once you have entered a number of comics you can view the
list on the main screen, e.g. as a simple list of all
comics (screen 4). It is also possible to browse your
collection of comics viewing them grouped by series (screen
5) or by genre (screen 6) or by other fields and even
combination of fields.
The list section of the screen either shows a list with
multiple columns (you can choose which columns) or small
images of the comic covers (screen 7).
All lists can be sorted instantly, on any field, e.g.
alphabetically on series, artist or publisher, or sorted on
release date or purchase date. Using the "incremental
search" functions you can find items quickly. Just sort the
list on the field you want to search on, then start typing
the first letter of the value you are looking for. While
you type the selection will jump to the first item that
matches.
Using the Filter feature you can search for any value in
any field, e.g. find all american horror comics with the
word "space" in the title. You can even make combinations
of search criteria, e.g. find all recent SF books from the
UK (screen 8).
