Dear valued customer!
This textfile is not only intended to excuse the horrible user
interface of "RealServer G2 license file generator v1.01", but also to
explain some bugs, features and the legal situation.
* Fixed bugs:
- On 99,9% of Win9X boxes my license file generator produced a system-
wide crash. I spent over a week to figure out what caused my little
proggie to become a crash generator. Heh, the error was completely
trivial, I would call it typo or my own idiocy. I still wonder why
this fuck ran on all WinNT boxes, but not on Win9X.
I want to thank DrRhui, Vizion, X-Calibre, Hambo for bug searching,
although no one of them could find it.
I want to thank my friend Terminal Cilla for patience, for 12 total
crashes and for giving me the chance to trace my proggie on his
Win95 box.
* First of all - known bugs:
- The up/down control which selects the maximum amount of clients works
in the opposite direction. Either it's my stupidity or Microsoft's
idiocy, but I could not fix it. I mean, you get this handy tool for
free and you should accept it as-is.
I have tested the license files on my Windows NT 4 Server SP4 box with
RealServer G2 p3 and I have not experienced any problems.
* Legal situation:
The usage of generated license files is ILLEGAL as usage of cracked,
illegally registered, and/or stolen programs ("warez"). You should
decide upon yourself, whether you can afford being legally prosecuted
and sued. Thus I recommend you NOT to use generated license files on
highly visited public servers.
Neither CORE nor me shalt be held liable for any damages, legal conse-
quences and any other inconveniences caused by usage of license files
generated by my little tool.
* Feature explanation:
+ General options:
- Max. clients: amount of maximum possible connections to your server.
Please note the more clients can connect to your server, the more it
can become slow.
- Live: I don't know exactly what it is. I think this enables you to
transmit streams directly coming from RealNetworks G2 Encoder. You
should leave this box checked.
- Valid players only: this determines whether the server should accept
RealPlayer G2 (Plus) only. I advice you to uncheck this box unless
you want to limit the audience.
+ Data types support:
This whole topic explains itself. Check boxes to allow particular
data types to be streamed. I recommend you to check all boxes.
- Native: maybe this is the single one to explain. This feature allows
to stream any other data types like MPEG or MP3 or MIDI etc.
+ Authentication options:
Again, I recommend to check all boxes.
- Storage: determines whether particular accesses on the server and
it's content files can be authenticated via IP/password.
- Commerce: commerce features allow you to run a "commerce" server.
This server is capable of general access authentication and can
restrict client access on files. This is very useful if you want to
protect content of membership sites agains guest visitors.
+ Server splitting options:
These features determine whether your server can be used for content
transmissions between servers. This is useful if you have a limited
bandwidth and need to broadcast content to multiple clients. In this
case Server 1 sends a stream to Server 2 which broadcasts it to
clients. I advice to select them all.
- Pull source: capability to accept connecting servers who GET the
content stream.
- Pull receiver: capability to GET the stream from another server.
- Push source: capability to SEND a stream to connecting server.
- Push receiver: capability to accept connecting servers who SEND the
content stream.
+ Multicast options:
Well, I'm not sure about these features. But, just for reasons of
completeness of features, you may leave them checked. I THINK those
feature enable clusters of multiple servers who serve an audience
with same content and behave as one single server. If this is so, that
feature can save bandwidth and could mean more fail safeness.
