SUN, MOON AND EARTH
This interactive applet displays the positions of the Sun
and Moon on the horizon for any date, time and location,
and on a world map with day and night regions. The times of
rise and setting, the declination, the Greenwich hour angle
of sun and moon and the equation of time, and more data are
computed.
ANALEMMA SUNDIAL
An analemma is the figure-of-eight shape that results if
the Sun's position in the sky is recorded at the same time
of day throughout the year. The gnomon of a sundial draws a
similar figure.
SUN PLOTTER
This applet will give you the (approximate) times of
sunrise and sunset, the elevation and azimuth for any
location, date, and time from a geometrical construction.
SUN AND EARTH
This interactive Java applet displays the position of the
Sun on the horizon for any date, time and location, and on
a world map with day and night regions. The times of rise
and setting, the declination, the Greenwich hour angle and
the equation of time are computed.
SUN VIEW
The Java applet displays the position of the Sun on the
horizon for any date, time and location, the times of
sunrise and sunset, the declination, the Greenwich hour
angle of the sun and the equation of time.
DAY AND NIGHT
This Java Applet shows the day and night regions on a world
map, and computes the declination and Greenwich hour angle
of the sun, the shadow of a vertical gnomon, the elevation
and azimuth of the sun.
SUN DATA
The applets computes the times of sunrise and sunset, and
more astronomical data, which are updated every second.
NEW SUN CLOCK
This times of sunrise, sunset and twilight are computed and
displayed.
SUNRISE AND SUNSET
The hours of daylight and night are indicated by coloured
bars.
AZIMUTH AND ELEVATION
The red bar in first line indicates the current time. The
time is updated when checking or unchecking the box.
SUN POSITION IN POLAR COORDINATES
The observer is located at the centre of his "celestial
sphere" with zenith Z above his head and the horizon
N-E-S-W. The Sun, Moon or any other celestial body can be
identified by the two coordinates altitude (elevation) h
and azimuth az (horizontal coordinates). Altitude is the
angular distance above the horizon (0 < h < 90°), and
azimuth the angular distance, measured along the horizon,
eastwards from the north point N in nautics (0 < alpha
<360°), or westwards from the south point S (in astronomy).
