Patching the Photoshop 7.0.1 Upgrade installer
----------------------------------------------
Presumably, if you are reading this, you have downloaded the upgrade
from Adobe, tried to use it, and failed because the product was not
found.
The 7.0.1 upgrade will upgrade only a fully functional installation
of Photoshop. This patch won't change that. It will only make the
upgrade succeed in the rare situations in which the upgrader claims
not to find the installed product, when you are positively sure that
you have it installed.
To make the upgrade succeed, follow the following steps.
After launching the Upgrade installer, the following info window appears:
1. This self-extracting archive will run the Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) 7.0.1
Update. Please .... Continue? Yes/No
---> click Yes
2. Extracting Files ...
---> do nothing, just wait for the next window.
3. Adobe Photoshop Update Setup is preparing the InstallShield(R) Wizard
which will guide you thorugh the rest of the setup process. Please wait.
---> indeed, just wait. It takes one minute to finish this extraction.
4. The full-screen-size green window "Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 Update" appears
---> iconize the green window (i.e. do NOT exit the Updater, just
iconize the green window).
5. Save the temporary directory where InstallShield first expands/self-
extracts the installation programs, data and scripts. This folder
usually has a name like "pft55~tmp". Also a directory named _ISTMP1.DIR
or similar appears in \temp. Ignore this last _ISTMP1.DIR folder.
To find the "pft" folder, sort the contents of \temp by date (clicking
on the "Modified" column title) and check the folders that were created
recently, close to the current time.
---> Find the pft55~tmp folder in \temp (or wherever your machine has the
temporary folder set) and make a copy of it in a permanent location.
Rename the copy to some meaningful name, if you like.
6. bring back up the green screen, click "Cancel" and answer "Yes" to the
following prompt to exit the official setup.
7. copy lr-ps701upg.exe to the saved updater folder and execute it. It will
patch the upgrade install folder as needed. Will also keep backup copies
of the patched files, if you choose to do so. You can also leave
lr-ps701upg.exe in the zip extraction folder. It lets you navigate to the
target directory (which is the updater directory that you saved, not the
Photoshop program directory)
8. if lr-ps701upg.exe fails, the reason is either that the patch was
already applied or that you have downloaded a different version of
the 7.0.1 upgrade. I can't help you there ...
9. if it succeeds, double-click setup.exe to restart the interrupted
installation. This time it should succeed and you have the upgraded
Photoshop 7.0.1. Don't forget to buy the product if you find that
this upgrade solved all of your problems.
Good luck!,
