Description: Low level hard disk security solution.
Updates:
Updated release. Can be configured to require a password
to boot the system (option only available in Windows 95 and
Windows 98. Boot drive lock will work with Windows Me,
but the bootup password option is not supported.)
Features:
Secure access to the first physical hard disk in the system.
Secures data on laptops and personal computers
since the hard disk cannot be removed and accessed
on another system.
Secures Computer Lab systems in schools and
businesses since the boot process cannot be altered
and any secondary security on the system will run
when the system starts
No access to the C: drive when the system is started from a
boot floppy disk.
No access to the C: drive when the hard disk is slaved to
another bootable hard disk.
This option will ensure that no changes can be made
to any DOS or Windows 95/98 startup files.
Any access control security will not be able to be
disabled by users since no access to the system is
available prior to booting.
No access to any data on the C:\ drive or any logical
drives also configured on the first hard disk in the
system is available unless the system is booted
normally or accessed with a secured, password
protected boot floppy created by Boot Drive Lock.
Monitors the master boot record for changes during the boot
process and notifies the user if the checksum fails. This
feature can be used to notify the user of a possible MBR
virus infection.
Does not require any hardware or BIOS configuration.
Note: it is recommended that BIOS be configured to not
allow booting from the A: drive and that a password be
required to make changes to BIOS, but this item is not
required.
Support for a safe Boot Drive Lock bootable floppy disk
with password support so that only authorized persons can
boot the system with a floppy disk.
Boot Drive Lock configuration is added to the Windows
Control Panel for ease of setup and administration.
Control panel is locked by a master boot password and this
password must be entered before changes to the setup can
be performed.
Note: this software works best when used in conjunction
with an access control security program such as The Lock .
The Lock is not required to use this software and any other
security utility should work normally with this package.
