A-Media Scanner collects information about files in media library and
exports this data as Web pages, playlists (for example in ASX or m3u
format), XML documents (for example SMIL presentation), or any other
user defined format documents.
During scanning directory with multimedia files, A-Media Scanner
gathers metadata from audio and video clips. It collects general media
file properties such as its media format or codecs, playback duration,
bitrate, etc. It also retrieves content information: Id3 and Id3v2 tag
or WMA / WMV ContentInfo (see list of supported media properties). In
addition, A-Media Scanner can extract set of snapshots form video clip
files.
All gathered data is saved in XML catalog index file. Now it is
possible to search catalog, export this information to other
applications, or convert it into documents of different formats.
A-Media Scanner supports XSL transformations to make catalog index
information presentable to humans or exportable to other applications.
In addition to XSL language, transformations support script languages:
JavaScript and VB Script.
Another feature of A-Media Scanner is possibility to perform sequence
of transformations using XML files as parameters. With help of script
languages and complex transformations it is possible to mix data from
other XML files or databases, export data to other applications and
create sets of interrelated documents.
A-Media Scanner has quite a few settings and options. For the
convenience, they are grouped into two types of templates. Snapshots
template is a set of settings defining snapshot rules (size, number of
frames to extract, etc.). Catalog template groups settings related to
how to open multimedia files (file extension rules, timeouts), which
Snapshots template to use, where to save snapshots, and rules for
forming URLs of media and snapshot files.
